Hello,
i'm a german rat breeder. My english isn't really good, i'm sorry.

I don't know If this is the right place to open this topic, cause i don't speak polish. If it's not, please put ist to the right board and tell me the link (cause i won't find it then, i guess).

I want to tell you, about a planned  rat exhibition in northern germany in september this year. It takes place in Neumünster, in the middle between Kiel and Hamburg.

Maybe some of you are interested in visiting us to meet german breeders (i hope there will be a lot of) or to show your rats. Maybe there are breeders from other countrys too, some danish breeders are interested for example ans maybe some of netherland.

Everyones rats can be evaluated if they are healthy and gentle, not younger than 8 weeks or older than 2 years ans not less than 150g. Doesn't matter where they are from.

Our judge is really experienced and uses the english rat standard.

If you are interested you can contact me by email and i can tell you more about it and send the documents for registration. And you can visit our website. It is just in german but an english version is coming up soon.

www.izg-farbratte-nord.de

Maybe you can tell other polish breeders about it.

It should be an international show, so we would like to meet somebody of you at the show :-)

Best regards
Nicola from Germany

Hi Nikola

We thank you for the invitation.

Sorry, but I can't do this. Personally I have over a thousand kilometers. And that's too much for me. :(

Greetings from Polish

Hi,
i forgot something to tell you.

I don't know which varieties are breeded in poland, in germany there are some ones called in german "Qualzucht". It means painful breeding. For example it is: fuzz, double rex, double velveteen, fat, sphinx, patchwork, dwarf and so on.

So these varieties are not allowed to exhibit. Allowed is standard coat, rex and velveteen coat in good quality and dumbo ears.

Rex and velveteen rats starts only in the pet class! Dumbos and standard coated rats starts in it's colour or marking class.

I heard that on polish exhibitions marked rats can start in colour classes, too. In germany only self marked rats can start there and will be evaluated in it's colour. Every other marking has to start in it's marking class!
And down under starts only in down under class, doesn't matter which other marking it has.

Regards Nicola

Hi Nicola,

In Poland we have a completely different way of judging.
Priorities breeding - health and gentle characters and full pedigree.
For us the exhibition is't a determinant of breeding.

Each rat may participate in the exhibition provided that he has the pedigree or registration of the initial pedigree book.

Longhair is a debatable issue now, sphynx, tailless and dwarf can't participate.
Rats without pedigree and unacknowledged varieties can compete in the category of 'pet'. Only one prize (best pet).

age categories:
-young (best in show young or female and male)
-adults
-senior (participates in the adult category + best senior)

Depending on the number of rats in the category, place 1 or 2.
The division into male and female.

best ears: standard and dumbo
best coat: standard, rex, double rex, velveteen, double velveteen, fuzz,
and
best self, marked, point

Best Senior
Best Pet
Rat Audience

Best In Show Female
Best In Show Male
Best In Show Young

and nominations for the Champion.

I hope that for you, everything is obvious.

Yours sincerely,
wu

Hi,
ah i see, so your exhibitions are just for breeders.
We try to make it possible for everyone to show his/her rats to become evaluated.
In Germany there isn't a real breeder Community in an organiztion. No wie have a new club, but its young and the Community isn't that Big.
So most german breeders breeds for their own without a pedigree book or something like that.

So exhibitions are important for breeders, but other people should have a Chance to Show their rats in the "real" classes. And its interesting if a rat out of a petshop for example is better evaluated than rats out of good breedings. So the breeders have a comparison to the "real rat situation" and not just to the "breeding rat situation" if there is a competition with rats from everywhere.

I hope you will understand. It's a little bit difficult for me to explain in english :)

Regards Nicola

no, anyone who has a rat can take part in the exhibition. but if someone has rats without pedigree, than the rats can only be shown as pets and take part only in this category. the rats with pedigree take part in categories that wuwuna has already written above, :)

what is important, that even in pet category the rats are assessed in colour, marking etc. so you actually see what rat in the whole exhibition has the best markings for example. our breeders don't breed pet rats, that includes rats from pet stores.

Yes. Every rat on a show gets a special card, where he is given points in: ears, coat type, colour, marking, eyes, head, condition, body build, behavior, etc. It doesn't matter which category he starts in.

Mamy people in Poland have rat with pedigree, bought from us or breeders abroad. ;) We encourage everyone who has rats from registered ratteries, to come to a rat show, so we can see how our babies look as adults. Not only breeders come to shows, there are always a lot of "simple" rat lovers. :)

Rats without pedigrees start in a different category - "pet". So people with rats from shelters or pet shops also can come to the rat show. ;)

We are against breeding rats without pedigrees/metrics, but I understand, situation in Germany is different. ;) In Holand breeders also "breed on their own", making their own metrics and they try to use the best rats, often imported pedigree rats from other countries.

We believe that the only way to control health is to know exactly what happened to our rat's siblings, parents, grandparents, geatgrandparents, their siblings, and their siblings' offsprings. To know that, you need to have a metric and contact with breeders who bred these rats. And of course contact with people who bought rats. ;) So even if rat doesn't get the best evaluation on a rat show (or never gets one), but has great health and character, we can breed him. High rewards are just... cause for pride, I guess. :D

Hi,
oh you missunderstood, i guess.

Good german breeders breeds only with rats with good pedigrees, too! Just to have controll about health, age and behavior.

With the petshop rats a talked about rats of rat lovers, not of breeders.

There are some breeders who breeds with rats they don't know anything about them but the real good breeders wouldn't do this.

But in germany we have a big problem. Houndreds of people here breeds rats and call themselves "breeder" but most of them have no knowledge about genetics and breeding the right way. They can pair two rats and sell babys, but everyone of you know, thats not dufficult and the right way to be called as a breeder.

Thats the most important reason why we don't give pedigrees to people who gets rats from us, only if it is a breeder we trust.

So no one who isn't a good breeder could exhibit his rats at the show, because none of them has a pedigree.

By the way, in germany there are cards with the evaluation in ears, coat, colour, marking, etc. too! Doesn't matter with category the rat has started in.

Regards Nicola

Hi,
we found a possibility to spend the night in Neumünster for about 15-20€ per person and night. It is allowed to bring the rats into the hotel too, if they stay in their boxes or small cages and don't leave any dirt.

If someone is interested, please contact me!

Regards Nicola
